AAR Core Level Seminar Programme: How to make your language more inclusive

Via Zoom video conference

Introduction

Unlock the transformative power of inclusive language in the creative industry. Discover how it enriches storytelling, enhances brand authenticity, and deepens audience connections. Dive into core principles and actionable strategies, navigating language around gender, sexuality, race, disability, religion, body positivity, and beyond. By embracing inclusive language, you're not just refining your creative and communication skills, you're challenging oppressive norms, amplifying marginalised voices, and paving the way for a more equitable future.

Seminar overview

  1. Inclusive language definition.
  2. Benefits of inclusive language.
  3. Consequences of non-inclusive language.
  4. The 7 principles of inclusive language: freedom of speech ≠ freedom from consequence, impact > intent, self-identification, complexity & nuance, courageous conversations, lifelong learning.
  5. Exercise to deconstruct inclusive language examples (covering language about gender, disability, age, sexuality, race, religion and body-shaming).
  6. Practical strategies to make your organisation’s language more inclusive.

Benefits

  1. Connect with diverse audiences and drive impactful engagement.
  2. Improve your communication skills, both with colleagues and in your client work.
  3. Unlock new creative avenues by embracing diverse perspectives.
  4. Foster belonging in your workplace.
  5. Develop a deeper understanding of social justice issues.
  6. Challenge outdated norms, amplify marginalised voices, and drive meaningful change.
