London, 21 October – AAR today announces the retirement of Partner Paul Phillips following an outstanding career in advertising and consultancy, including three decades with AAR.
Paul joined AAR in 1998 to establish the company’s dedicated Media Practice, having previously built his career in media, initially in full-service agencies and latterly at CIA. His perspective of agency and brand side challenges was foundational in developing an expertise in building long-term partnerships, an approach that has shaped his career and AAR’s work ever since.
Over his time at AAR, Paul has advised CMOs, marketing leaders, procurement teams, agency leaders and their growth teams on some of their most important decisions, helping organisations select the right partners, optimise commercial relationships and build marketing operating models that deliver better business outcomes.
His expertise has spanned agency selection, pitch management, remuneration, governance and relationship optimisation, supporting organisations across creative, media, production and integrated agency partnerships in the UK and globally. Known for his calm, pragmatic and straight-talking approach, Paul has helped clients navigate complex periods of change with clarity and confidence.
As Managing Director and Partner, Paul has also played a significant role in AAR’s own growth and evolution. He has helped shape the business into the broader marketing transformation adviser it is today, while building enduring relationships with marketers, agencies and colleagues across the industry.
Victoria Fox, CEO at AAR, said:
“Paul has made an exceptional contribution to AAR, our clients and the wider marketing industry. His expertise, judgement and commitment to helping organisations build better partnerships have earned him enormous respect across the sector.
“He has played a central role in shaping the business we are today, and we are incredibly grateful for the leadership, insight and relationships he has brought to AAR over so many years. While we will miss working with him every day, he leaves the business in a strong position with an excellent leadership team and an exciting future ahead.”
Reflecting on his career, Paul Phillips said:
“The reality is that it was only when I joined AAR and understood the contribution I could make to helping establish successful brand and agency partnerships that I discovered a career that I have enjoyed for three decades, hopefully delivering it with a modicum of success.
“As those of us lucky enough to have worked here know, AAR is a special company that has afforded me an enormously enjoyable career. I fully expect the team guided by Victoria to achieve even more success.
“To sum up the last 29 years, I’ve been very lucky to turn up to work every day thinking that I have the best job in the world, something very few people can say.”
As AAR enters its next chapter, it does so from a position of strength – with a clear strategy, an expanded leadership team and a continued commitment to helping organisations create stronger marketing ecosystems and more effective partnerships.
Paul remains in post until the end of December and leaves a legacy that will long be remembered by AAR and the industry.
