This year, the AAR team chose the Tower Bridge Care Home as our charity project and, on one of the hottest July days of this extremely warm summer, we took on the challenge of transforming their gardens from ‘outside space’ to welcoming, al fresco living areas for the residents to enjoy.

Eight trips to the garden centre to buy paint, compost, planters, trees, shrubs and plants and we were ready to roll.  Tony took on the challenge of installing a new solar powered water feature, whilst the rest of us weeded, planted, repaired, painted  and jet washed whilst enjoying the company of the more able residents who were keen to witness our progress and offer their advice.

We ended the day very proud of our acheivements and literally green-fingered (who chose that paint?) with a real sense of satisfaction that the staff and residents of Tower Bridge Care Home now have two clean, bright and colourful outdoor spaces to relax in.

Well done to our Kate for her brilliant organisation.  If you’d like to do something similar, please contact Attend (http://www.attend.org.uk), a national charity that supports the role volunteers play in creating healthy communities.
